Što mi e milo
Macedonian trad.
arr. Daniel Hughes
(Sung in Macedonian)
How nice it would be for me
to have a shop in the town of Struga.
Hurry young Kalina…
To sit by the door and
watch the young girls go by.
Hurry young Kalina…
As they go to fetch water
with their colorful jugs.
Hurry young Kalina…
To the spring, where they
meet with their friends.
Hurry young Kalina…
The River Driver
Canadian traditional
arr. Great Big Sea & Ian A. Cook
I was just the age of sixteen
when I first went on the drive.
After six months hard labour,
At home I did arrive,
And courted with a pretty girl;
’Twas her caused me to roam.
Now I’m a river driver
And I’m far away from home.
CHORUS
I’ll eat when I am hungry
And I’ll drink when I am dry.
Get drunk whenever I’m ready,
Get sober by and by.
And if the river don’t drown me,
It’s down I’ll need to roam.
For I’m a river driver,
And I’m far away from home.
I’ll build a lonesome castle
Upon some mountain high
Where she can sit and view me
As I go passin’ by,
Where she can sit and view me
As I go marching on.
For I’m a river driver
And I’m far away from home.
When I am old and feeble
And in my sickness lie,
just wrap me up in a blanket
And lay me down to die.
Just get a little blue bird
To sing for me alone.
For I’m a river driver
And I’m far away from home.
Woodsmoke and Oranges
Ian Tamblyn
arr. Rebecca Campbell
By woodsmoke and oranges, path of old canoe,
I would course the inland ocean to be back to you.
No matter where I go to, it’s always home again
To the rugged northern shore and the days of sun and wind.
We nosed her in by Pukaskwa, out for fifteen days,
To put paddle and the spirit at the mercy of the waves.
The wanigans were loaded down and a gift left on the shore,
For it’s best if we surrender to the rugged northern shore.
In the land of the silver birch, cry of the loon,
There’s something in this country that’s a part of me and you.
The waves smashed the smoky cliffs of Old Woman Bay,
Where we fought against the backswell and then were on our way.
I could speak to you of spirit – by the vision pits we saw them
Walk the agate beaches of the mighty Gargantua.
I have turned my back upon these things, tried to deny
The coastline of my dreams, but it turns me by and by.
It tossed the mighty ship around, smashed the lighthouse door,
Sends a shiver up my spine, oh the rugged northern shore.
In the land of the silver birch, cry of the loon
There’s something ’bout this country that’s a part of me and you.
A Victim of Gravity
Lynn Ahrens
arr. Jack Vishneski
ed. Ian A. Cook
Down, down, down, down gravity
Helpin’ wash the dishes, and I drop a cup
Why does everything fall down instead of up?
Ridin’ up a hill, I spill and hit the ground
Wish I could fall up instead of always falling down
(Down, de-down, down, down)
I’m a victim of gravity
Everything keeps fallin’ down on me
No matter where I go, that force is there I know
Just a-pullin’ me down, down, down, down, down
(It’s all around town now)
It’s like a magnet deep inside the ground
When I lift something up, I can feel it pulling down
It pulls me in the pool, it pulls rain down on me
I’m a victim of down, down, down, down, gravity, yeah
Galileo, Galileo Galilei
He did experiments with a force he couldn’t see
(Could not see, yeah)
He found that all things fell to earth at the very same speed
(Very same speed, yeah)
He didn’t know it yet, but that was due to gravity
The moon goes ‘round the Earth and shines its silver light
The Earth goes ‘round the sun and makes the seasons right
It isn’t love that makes the world go round, you see
It’s the power of gravity
(Down, de-down, down, down)
Without Earth’s gravity to keep us in our place
We’d have no weight at all, we’d be in outer space
The sea would float away, and so would fields and towns
Nothin’ pullin’ ’em down, down, down, down, down, yeah
Isaac Newton underneath the apple tree
(Apple tree, yeah)
One hit him on the head
He said, “That must be gravity!”
Don’t call me clumsy, don’t call me a fool
When things fall down on me, I’m following the rule
The rule that says that what goes up comes down, like me
I’m a victim of down, down, down, down gravity
Shoo-be doo, down, down, down
The Hymn of Acxiom
Vienna Teng
arr. Jack Vishneski & Ian A. Cook
Somebody hears you. You know that. You know that
Somebody hears you. You know that inside
Someone is learning the colors of all your moods, to
(say just the right thing and) show that you’re understood
Here you’re known
Leave your life open. You don’t have. You don’t have
Leave your life open. You don’t have to hide
Someone is gathering every crumb you drop, these
(mindless decisions and) moments you long forgot
Keep them all
Let our formulas find your soul
We’ll divine your artesian source (in your mind)
Marshal feed and force (our machines will)
To design you a perfect love—
Or (better still) a perfect lust
O how glorious, glorious: a brand new need is born
Now we possess you. You’ll own that. You’ll own that
Now we possess you. You’ll own that in time
Now we will build you an endlessly upward world
(reach in your pocket) embrace you for all you’re worth
Is that wrong?
Isn’t this what you want?
Amen
When the Earth Stands Still
Don Macdonald
Come listen in the silence of the moment before rain comes down.
There’s a deep sigh in the quiet of the forest and the tall tree’s crown.
Now hold me.
Will you take the time to hold me and embrace the chill?
Or miss me,
will you take the time to miss me when the earth stands still?
Cause there’s no use running
cause the storm’s still coming
and you’ve been running for too many years.
Come listen in the silence of the moment before shadows fall.
Feel the tremor of your heartbeat matching heartbeat as we both dissolve.
Now hold me.
Will you take the time to hold me and embrace the chill?
Or miss me,
will you take the time to miss me when the earth stands still?
Cause there’s no use running
cause the storm’s still coming
and you’ve been running for too many years.
So stay with me, held in my arms
Like branches of a tree
They’ll shelter you for many years.
Mr. Blue Sky
Jeff Lynne
arr. Ian A. Cook
Sun is shinin’ in the sky
There ain’t a cloud in sight
It’s stopped rainin’
Everybody’s in a play
And don’t you know
It’s a beautiful new day
Hey-ey-hey
Runnin’ down the avenue
See how the sun shines brightly
In the city
On the streets where once was pity
Mr. Blue Sky is living here today
Hey-ey-hey
Mr. Blue Sky
Please tell us why
You had to hide away for so long? (So long)
Where did we go wrong?
Mr. Blue Sky
Please tell us why
You had to hide away for so long (So long)
Where did we go wrong?
Hey, you, with the pretty face
Welcome to the human race
A celebration
Mr. Blue Sky’s up there waitin’
And today
Is the day we’ve waited for
Ah-ah-ah
Oh, Mr. Blue Sky
Please tell us why
You had to hide away for so long? (So long)
Where did we go wrong?
Hey there, Mr. Blue
We’re so pleased to be with you
Look around, see what you do
Everybody smiles at you
Hey there, Mr. Blue
We’re so pleased to be with you
Look around, see what you do
Everybody smiles at you
Mr. Blue, you did it right
But soon comes Mr. Night
Creepin’ over, now his hand is on your shoulder
Never mind, I’ll remember you this
I’ll remember you this way
Mr. Blue Sky
Please tell us why
You had to hide away for so long? (So long)
Where did we go wrong?
Hey there, Mr. Blue (Sky)
We’re so pleased to be with you (Sky)
Look around, see what you do (Blue)
Everybody smiles at you
Please turn me over
Brown Eyed Girl
Van Morrison
arr. Ian A. Cook
Hey, where did we go?
Days when the rains came
Down in the hollow
Playin’ a new game
Laughin’ and a-runnin’, hey, hey
Skippin’ and a jumpin’
In the misty morning fog with
Our, our hearts a thumpin’
And you, my brown-eyed girl
You, my brown-eyed girl
Whatever happened
To Tuesday and so slow?
Going down the old mine
With a transistor radio
Standing in the sunlight laughing
Hiding behind a rainbow’s wall
Slipping and sliding
All along the waterfall
With you, my brown-eyed girl
You, my brown-eyed girl
Do you remember when we used to sing
Sha-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-tee-da?
Sha-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-tee-da
La-tee-da
So hard to find my way
Now that I’m all on my own
I saw you just the other day
My, how you have grown
Cast my memory back there, Lord
Sometimes I’m overcome thinking about
Making love in the green grass
Behind the stadium
With you, my brown-eyed girl
You, my brown-eyed girl
Do you remember when we used to sing
Sha-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-tee-da?
Sha-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-tee-da
La-tee-da
Requiescat
Andrea Ramsey
text by Oscar Wilde
Tread lightly, she is near
Under the snow,
Speak gently, she can hear
The daisies grow.
All her bright golden hair
arnished with rust,
She that was young and fair
Fallen to dust.
Lily-like, white as snow,
She hardly knew
She was a woman, so
Sweetly she grew.
Coffin-board, heavy stone,
Lie on her breast,
I vex my heart alone
She is at rest.
Peace, Peace, she cannot hear
Lyre or sonnet,
All my life’s buried here,
Heap earth upon it.
Time
Jennifer Lucy Cook
Time You can spend it When you spend it Then you’re running out of
Time You can save it But to save it is to take a little
Time In a minute When you’re in it Can you feel the passing
Time Is an illusion There’s confusion When they tell you now it’s
Time To get older Time To work and Time to waste and there’s no
Time Left to hold her Time To tell him how you feel While there’s still
Time Three two one, eleven thirty Two AM, then dinner
Time Now to kill I said I will, and still It flies and flies, oh
Time
Slack Jaw
Nicholas C. Sanborn & Amelia R. Meathe
arr. Ian A. Cook
I got all the parts I wished for
I’ve got everything I need
Sometimes I’m above water
But mostly I’m at sea
Oh, slack jawed me
Can’t you see?
There’s so many rhythms and harmonies
And I’m walking the dog back
It’s not like I got hurt or broken
Or ruined on the way
It’s an ache and it shines through me
A swallow in a cage
Oh, slack jawed me
Can’t you see?
There’s so many rhythms and harmonies
And I’m walking the dog back
Is it a sign? Or just a landmine?
Or a feeling roaming free?
It’s overtaken me
Gonna hold it ’til it dries up
Or pocket it for another day
If it’s me I cannot give up
I’d rather that she stayed
Oh, slack jawed me
Can’t you see?
There’s so many rhythms and harmonies
And I’m walking the dog back
I got all the parts I’ve wished for
I got everything I need
Sometimes I’m above water
But mostly I’m at sea
Oh, slack jawed me
Can’t you see?
There’s so many rhythms and harmonies
And I’m walking the dog back

Sleep, sleep tonight
And may your dreams be realized
If the thunder cloud passes rain
So let it rain, rain down on him
Mmm, so let it be
Mmm, so let it be
Sleep, sleep tonight
And may your dreams be realized
If the thunder cloud passes rain
So let it rain, let it rain
Rain on him
The Steady Light
Reginald Unterseher
text by Sheila Dunlop
Let my footfall
on this sacred earth
tread lightly as a falling leaf.
Let my shadow
from this blessed sun
shut no one from the light.
Let my dance
beneath these holy stars
grow stronger with the years.
Let my heart expand
with sky-wide love.
Those who go before
hold high the steady light
that shows me where I am.
Good Old Acapella
L. Carter and O. Nevada
arr. Deke Sharon and Anne Raugh
ed. Taylor Quinn
Well there’s a light coming from the window
And it shines down on the street
There’s some guys standing on the corner
Singin’ that good old harmony
And the light coming from the window
Shines on a street corner symphony
Let ’em laugh, let ’em sing
Makin’ that good old harmony
Soul to soul
Brother to brother
A cappella
Sounds good to me
I just want it understood
The boys brought boogey to the neighbourhood
And they’re standing under the light
Singing tonight
Singing that good old a cappella
Sound that sounds so sweet
Light, let ’em sing
Makin’ that good old harmony
Soul to soul
Brother to brother
A cappella
Sounds good to me
When I turn out the light
Say goodbye to another night
I’m gonna rest my weary head
Put my bones away to bed
I’m gonna get on my knees and pray to the Lord
To give me just one more day
Oh Lord, hear my plea
This music means so much to me
Soul to soul
Brother to brother
A cappella
Sounds good to me
